5 Ways Customers Can Share their eBay Reviews - on product, service or the company

If someone is not happy about the product he purchased on eBay, he has the right to submit a review or post a comment about his experience on that product. He can also contact the seller directly to settle issues, if any.

How does eBay handle feedback?

eBay has comprehensive rules and policies governing consumer’s experience. One of them is on giving feedback. According to eBay:

“Feedback is an open forum where members can leave comments about their experiences with their transaction partners. It's important to remember that, in most cases, the Feedback you leave is permanent. Also, there are a few things we won't allow.”

Giving a feedback is also about writing reviews about the seller, his products and the quality of his services. Customers’ reviews can be provided in various ways such as writing comments, scoring with yellow stars (1 lowest, 5 highest), positive, neutral or negative feedback rating, and assigning of star icons (in different colours) as overall feedback score.

eBay has a clear presentation of these reviews both on the product’s page and on the seller’s profile. In the seller’s profile, for example, the feedback percentage is an indicator of the seller’s overall performance. On the product page, the percentage of customers who recommend that product is an indicator of the product’s overall quality.

Why giving feedback is important to eBay?

eBay, like any other company, is being judged by consumers, partners, press people, government authorities, and people in NGOs based on the quality of its products and services. For example, Global Reviews is an independent company that measures digital customer experience and award the companies that provide best customer experience. There are many organizations with the same advocacy as Global Reviews.

On part of eBay, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing happy customers. But of course, happiness as well as satisfaction is consumer’s choice, not of eBay. What eBay does is it talks to consumers about what they see and feel on the ecommerce site and then offer the necessary support or solutions. So how eBay is doing this?

There are five different ways eBay customers can provide their feedback – be it about the products, services or the company itself. Here they are.

1. Write a Review on the Product Page

According to eBay, they only allow reviews on a few categories which include books, DVDs, music, and cell phones. In eBay Community site, one shopper asked eBay’s customer rep why they limit product reviews to certain categories. The customer rep responded that their key focus is on improving Buying Guides.

2. Write and Publish a Guide

Yes, you can write a product or user guide in the Buying Guide section of eBay.com. You can choose between two templates – Basic or Best rated - when writing a guide. While everybody can write and publish a guide, eBay’s request is that you strive to be an objective and informative subject expert.

3. Comment on Social Media

eBay for Business and eBay Inc. are the company’s official Twitter accounts. eBay Shopping & Retail is its official Facebook fan page. Go ahead and tell eBay what you feel about their products and services via tweets and posts. You can also visit eBay’s blog site, the ebayinc blog, to read their latest posts and then leave a comment afterwards.

4. Engage in eBay Community

In the eBay Community page is where you can find the Archive Reviews & Guides. You can also ask a question or start a discussion on Answer Center, Discussion Boards and Groups, and the community members will surely respond to you.

5. Send eBay an Email

You can contact eBay via email or phone call. Just click on the Contact us link and follow the instructions.
