Nortel Products and Nortel Business Phones Guide for Existing Clients – Must Read
When Avaya Inc. acquired Nortel Enterprise Solutions in 2009, many of Nortel products began to spread out online. Nortel T7136E Digital Telephone, for example, is currently being sold at Amazon by American Telecom Headquarters. Another company selling this phone on its website is Business Telephone Sales, a company specializing in used and refurbished business phone for existing phone systems. Since this phone model is a best seller telephone in Amazon’s PBX Phones & Systems category, you can still find a lot of websites giving away copies of its user manual.
Nortel Products – where did they go?
In October 2010, Avaya announced the End-of-Sale (EOS) for new systems of Nortel Norstar 3×8, CICS, MICS, and Call Pilot 100/150 products. But Avaya also announced the additional 3 years of providing technical support on the phone system. Since Nortel Norstar is a PBX phone system, clients can migrate to a full VOIP/SIP system via the Nortel Business Communication Manager (BCM) system.
Before Nortel Networks filed for bankruptcy in 2009, the company was one of the leaders in telecommunications, computers networking equipment, and software manufacturing. For telephone systems, some of its products were Application Server 5200, Digital Multiplex System, VoIP PBX Systems, and Meridian Norstar Digital Key Telephone System. For networking equipment, Nortel has Secure Router 1000/8000 Systems, VPN routers, Multi-service Switch, Metro Ethernet Routing Switch 8600, and Nortel Secure Network Access. For software, it has the Nortel Enterprise Switch Manager, Nortel Multi-link Trunking Manager, Nortel Speech Server and Unified Communications Management. Many of these products were already discontinued, others were acquired by Ciena and Ericsson, and majority went to Avaya - under the Avaya Unified Communications products portfolio.
Who else sells Nortel phones?
NxGen Communications, a Singapore-based company, was one of the system integrator partners of Nortel Networks before. Currently, the company is still selling Nortel phone sets, contact center software applications, enterprise solutions, and voice/fax/unified messaging solutions. The company also distributes Avaya products including server platforms, gateway platforms, digital telsets, IP phones, messaging solutions, and call center solutions. You can download brochures of these products from the company’s website.
Nortel phones are now Mitel phones
Nortel business phones became very popular across all industries and businesses over the past decades – even today. Aastra Technologies, which was acquired by Mitel Networks in January 2014, was the last manufacturer of business phones with the Nortel brand. Some of these were Nortel DisplayPhone, Nortel Venture, Nortel Vista, Nortel Meridian, and Nortel SL-1 Digital Office Phone. After Mitel’s takeover of Aastra, no more new Nortel phones were sold in the market – as they were already replaced by Mitel business phones.
Make the most of your Nortel phones
Since Nortel products will soon be gone in the market, companies with Nortel business phones will also soon migrate to newer models of business phones – the SIP/VoIP phone systems. Current users of Nortel PBX phone systems – like the Nortel Meridian series – can use analog telephone adapter or ATA adapter to use their phone with the VoIP phone system (or for Nortel Norstar phones, the Nortel BCM). To maximize your usage of Nortel phones before they eventually disappear forever, grab Nortel phone manuals and programming guides for Nortel business phones as they are still everywhere online. You can still download them at no cost. Here are the links.
